Since the passing of the legendary cartoonist, illustrator, author, musician and graphic novelist, Wallace Wood, just after Halloween, 1981, the Wallace Wood Estate has been managed in keeping with the artist's Will. Wood's Executor, his close friend Jack Robinson, enlisted long-time Wood associate, Bill Pearson, as Director of new Estate-related business. Under Pearson's direction, Wood's legacy continued with various authorized collections including Woodwork (Crouch/Sea Gate), World of Wood (Eclipse Comics), The Wally Wood Sketchbook (Vanguard), The Complete Sally Forth (Fantigraphics), The Complete Wally Wood Lunar Tunes (Vanguard), Illustrator Archives Wallace Wood Portfolio (Buffalo Nickel), The Wizard King Trilogy (Vanguard) and more.
By the early 2000s, J. David Spurlock was serving in a support role to Mr. Pearson with the Estate. Mr. Spurlock has worked for years with the Wood family and Estate on various projects including Wood's acclaimed biography, Wally's World (with Steve Starger), co-founding The Wally Wood Scholarship Fund (with Wood's brother Glenn), Curating the Wally Wood Day event at The National Arts Club (with Roger Hill), etc. At the request of the Estate, supported by Wood family members, Executor Robinson and Director Pearson, 2011 saw a transitional period with Mr. Spurlock taking on most duties including the launch of a number of new initiatives to embellish Wood's legacy. Mr. Spurlock officially accepted the Director position as of January 2012.
After Wood's dear friend and Executor Jack Robinson passed away toward the end of 2017, Bill Pearson wrote, "Jack Robinson and I had good reason to bring David on to follow my 30-year run as Director of the Wood Estate. Jack and I couldn't be happier with our decision. David has worked so well with everyone, Muriel VanSweringen-Wood's Estate, Jack Robinson, Glenn Wood and myself and has kept Jack and I in the loop on current affairs."

The Wood Estate continues its dedication to respect, preserve and enhance the legacy of Hall of Fame creator Wallace "Wally" Wood through education, new initiatives, licensing and news.
